View Full Version : Mothers day sale, thinking out loud

So one of the forum members suggested that my paring knives would make a great mothers day gift. I too think its a great idea, but I have done quite a few of the parings over the past few months and I wanted to do something a bit different. I like my design so I didn't want to change that, I have thought about a bigger model(aroud 4 inches), as I have mentioned in another thread, and I will do that. I wanted to keep things reasonable though, and I thought back to a particular special order. This was a paring knife with bolsters. I don't do them usually to keep the costs down, and I havn't suggested them because they are more work. I would normally charge $130 for one with bolsters, but what I am thinking is that I'll do them for my normal price of $110
I may even limit these to this one time each year, who knows, like I said in the title I'm just thinking out load here.

To avoid pms coming out my ears, what I was thinking is of making a bunch of these in the next month and then posting them for sale on the first of may. I am working on adding variety to my handle materials, but I still have many choices to add, I will probably make several using similar handle materials.

Let me know what you guys think of this idea here on this thread.
Maybe just to be peckish I'll call it the mother-in-law sale(this is my idea of humor, yeah I know I'm twisted)

Thanks,
Del

Great idea. I'd definitely be interested, but not for my mother-in-law

Del -- I think it's a great idea!

Please set one aside for me, and then post the rest for sale on your web site :D

Well lets see - both my MIL and my Mom are dead so I'd buy two and have a mock duel in their honor - one in each hand. Hell Yes it's a good idea. And like my MIL used to say - "the longer the better". :groucho: :devilburn:

Mother of pearl bolster on black wood handle. Too cute?
My mother in law would love it.

I would love to use mother of pearl, but getting it thick enough is almost impossible now.

I put this up to gauge interest, I will probably make an announcement of the exact time I'll post the knives for sale.
I am planning on making quite a few. I do want to make sure everyone who wants one gets one though. We will see how it works out.
Thanks,
Del

I'm in the same boat re. my Harner paring. I thought I was done with acquiring more small knives, but I'm in for one 4" model.

Do you ship internationally (to Sweden, to be exact)? If so, I'd be interested in one of these. They look amazing!

I'm new to the forum, by the way, and this is my first post. Looks like you all got a good community going on here.

Here is the last in the batch of parers coming out of the liquid nitrogen, from my new dewer. I finally was able to purchase one of these. So now in addition to a roaring fire of the forge, I now add the burning cold of the depths.
I now have a 2 day break to do the yearly paperwork, and get my taxes filed. A bit late this year, but not past due ;)
There are over 50 of these paring knives including a few new models. All heat treated now and ready for finishing.
Thanks,
Del

There are some advantages to having four kids.
Now back to work.

Just an update,
I am currently working on some Damascus for another maker.
I am also grinding blades in between working on the Damascus.
I am running a bit behind on where I had planned to be, but I am working hard. I plan on offering them in batches of ten or so as I finish them.
Thanks,

I apologize in advance if it should be obvious, but how does one order?
(I realize the knives will be up tomorrow.)
I've been to your site but there were no order forms.
Thank you.

Thank you.

I will be posting pics of the finished knives in a new thread. The first to post an I'll take it for a knife will then receive a pm from me regarding the details of payment and shipping. All requests should be made in the thread.
For other orders I usually take them via pm or email.
I have over 50 of these planned, and will post new ones every few days. So, if you miss on the first run or two, don't worry there will be more. If at the end I still haven't made the one you want I'll open it up to requests.
Thanks,
Del

:lol2: Well working 13 days straight with half dozen doubles thrown in doesn't help. I think I have next Sunday off then it's off to the races till May 17th. Hey this being over 59 is highly overrated. It's the climbing up to the catwalks and back down that gets me. Two stories in the front and three in the back and I don't have any help do what I do or to man the light board. Keeps my legs in shape tho.

Oops - time to go set up for tonight's show . . . . . .
