Calling that a D would be paying it a compliment it doesn't deserve. It was much more of a modified oval. :D

Somewhere, I just can't recall exactly where, there is a write up or two. I'll poke around and see if I can find them.

I'm finally working on Martell knives again. When I say to you folks that I seriously underestimated the amount of work I had in the shop I mean SERIOUSLY underestimated. It was the perfect storm that began last summer with a hospital stay (recovery) and then Hiromoto handle sale, Martell knife sales, rehandle coupons, tons of Stefan handles, KKF operations, and my everyday sharpening repair work all coming in at once. I can't blame this situation on all that though, that was just part of it, the rest was my fault completely as I was accepting all the work that was coming my way and it's come at a rate I never could have imagined.

The last few months I've been making lists for work but not accepting anything new. That's allowed me to work through what's been stacking up in the shop.

There have been a few points in the last few months where I've wanted to jump on Martell knives and knock a few out but I stopped myself from heading down the path of quickie work. I don't like the idea of being pressured when making a knife, I like to do each knife in it's own time and pay attention to details and get it right. So I've pushed Martell knife making off until now for this reason.

I want to take this opportunity to thank each one of you who have been waiting VERY patiently all of this time for your Martell knife. I am beyond words thankful to have your faith in me and promise that the end of your wait is coming near.

Currently I'm working on...

Jim (O1 - 300mm wa suji & 180mm wa nakiri)

Emanuel (O1 - 240mm wa gyuto & 300mm yo suji)
*Plus E's waiting on a rehandle that I'm doing at the same time

So no BS here folks, unless my shop falls down I'm back in knifemaking mode again for the foreseeable future and look forward to reducing the list substantially.

Again, thanks for your patience and understanding!

Dave

That's great news! Not just for us but I'm sure this has weighed heavily on you and it's got to feel pretty good to get things moving again.

Just curious, being the perfectionist that you are with crafting your own blades, about how many man hours can you put into each one?

I just remembered something as well about my knife, PM incoming.

I know what you mean. Just curious because as I go downstairs to simply grind something for a few minutes, "This will only take a second" I look at the clock and it's like two hours later. Gaaahhh!

Emanuel's gyuto is 99% done (just needs sharpening), his sujihiki is 75% done (just needs handle shaping and the final finishing/sharpening), & he's also got a honesuki rehandle getting worked on too (50% done).

Hi folks, I'm sorry that I haven't had a Martell knife done to show in some time. The months of Nov & Dec are busy for a pro sharpener but Jan usually turns slow again so I'm looking forward to grinding and getting more knives out to their homes.

Thanks for your continued patience.

I've got some Good & Bad News to share....

The Good is that I've finally cleared up every other major job (except 3 rehandles) that's in house waiting that is NOT Martell knife work. This means that after I finish just three more rehandles I'll be ready to do Martell knives full time!!!!!!!!!! I can't tell you how great this feels to finally get back to this point again.

The Bad is that we have to move our home & shop in less than 3 weeks from today and have no clue where we're going to end up! :(

We've been working on this for weeks now with looking at rental homes & shops and now we've moved onto trying to purchase a house instead. Of course this comes along right when I'm finally moving ahead and getting to the Martell knives again. So frustrating! :bashhead:

I intend to pick up where I left off when we finally get settled in a new place. I can only offer an apology for once again adding a delay to your wait.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Dave

**** happens and when it rains it pours. Get yourself together and situated peacefully. Moving is stressful enough without adding any pressure to it. I hope you find the right spot for your family and for your business.

And then go make my knife!!
