I thought nothing was changing in the forum....

The few I have seen are turning me off like linking words as adds..

Anyone else find these annoying?

Yeah. I find those mildly annoying...AND pointless, not to mention unsightly.

Edit- interestingly once I logged in to reply to this thread the word "forum" was no longer linked to the ad :dazed:

No offense, but I find it mildly amusing when people who are not even supporters of the site complain about adds......

It sounds like you got a dl called groupon. It is usually bundled with some other needed program. If your not paying attention you can end up changing your browser, search engine, and of course this piece of crap.

yes this is what im talking about, mainly see it on my phone, however even saw it after logging in. Seems to be happening more in the last few weeks.

Kalaeb- I actually do take offense to this statement. I have been a member here for about a year and thought about supporting the site for Dave until i read about the buyout. I enjoy reading the forum and getting information, especially this forum because the people are nice and more knowledgeable and its an overall good experience, however with that said i have enough things to pay for in the world i dont need to pay for every single thing i do. Also i had no problem supporting Dave on running this site as he did it as a hobby and not really as a business per se. Comments like this really are void, paying or not im still a member here and contribute to this forum with passarounds, givng knives to people who need them etc.

But i run adblock as well so on my personal computer i dont get them very much i was just curious because the statement i read was that nothing was going to change on the forum however it seems thats not the case. Was just curious if others were experiencing the same thing.

I believe a promise was made when the new owners took over that there would be no ads. I use adblock so I haven't seen any, but if there are ads on the site now, I have to conclude that a promise was broken.

I saw these awhile back (maybe a year?) but it had to do with my computer and something I downloaded, not the forum.

I get them on my phone--droid, but not on my home computers...

Strange and annoying since I wind up hitting them when scrolling a page on my phone.

I was getting them in every thread every time I logged in here on my PC. Highly annoying because they are colored/highlighted and I'd still wind up hitting them when scrolling. Clearly there's been plenty of changes lately which is disappointing. In either event I used this guide to block them;

I had them for a day. Then I figured out that I had accidentally added on something when trying to download a media viewer to watch a hockey playoff game. It changes some of my internet settings. I went into my setting on the internet tool bar and changed everything back to normal and the add words. were gone! :) Then I went to my programs and deleted everything I had download for that date. I was surprised to find my one slick downloaded like 8 programs on my computer.

Reason I say this.. I dont believe the site made any changes. More so that there is some add on or whatnot on your computer or devise either allowing or adding these keyword links to your internet browsing.

Blessings

We run text enhance ads for people who are not logged in. If you are logged in and seeing those you need to run your malware.

Duckfat
06-17-2013, 09:19 AM
Malware will not stop the ads. You have to block them by listing the companies in your browsers security settings. This is a clearly a site glitch if ads are being placed here for those who are not logged in yet logged in members are having issues. I've never had these ads with any other web site.

Here's a quote from the "New Owners" thread a couple months ago:

"We will not be adding advertisements, the Vendor relationship setup Dave has fostered will suffice, no additional ads or increase in rates will be done."

And here's one from the post above:

"We run text enhance ads for people who are not logged in"

Seems like a disconnect.

I saw some ads before the site was sold. I also noticed it on other sites. I had one of those programs on my comp. that put ads on. with that said I would check your programs to see if you have something on there you don't know about.

Ok I just logged out, and I saw the ads. Most of them were for bing.

wsfarrell
06-19-2013, 01:29 AM
To see the ads you have to (a) turn off ad blockers, (b) log out of KKF. People who are logged in do not see them. People who are not logged in do see the ads. I logged out a minute ago and turned off adblock plus. The ads came up. Here's a screen capture from this thread showing what the ads look like. A word of text is highlighted, and if you hover over it the ad pops up. In the screen shot the word "home" is highlighted and a JC Penney ad pops up.

I had the same thing a while back on different sites.

I loath text enhance, but the good/bad news is that if you google it 99% of the results are "how to remove" "malware" If you're just casually removing it as an extension, look for its pseudonyms, run your malwarebytes, and ... sadly... instal ad blocker.

Duckfat
06-19-2013, 09:43 AM
People who are logged in do not see them.

Correction; Some people who are logged in do not see them. I was getting them when logged in and clearly others were as well.
We've already been told the site signed up for the ads. That eliminates Malware for most users.
Just block the crud in your settings or instal ad blocker if you are seeing them.
