Dave Martell's Core Set of Sharpening Stones (http://www.japaneseknifesharpeningstore.com/Dave-Martell-set-sharpening-stones-p/set1dmcore.htm)
These are the three stones that I grab when sharpening standard (non-wide double beveled) Japanese knives. I have not found a better set (at any price) for this task. They work great together for providing a perfect crisp bevel, I wouldn't be without them.

Bester 1200x Sharpening Stone (http://www.japaneseknifesharpeningstore.com/Bester-1200-Sharpening-Stone-p/bstr1200.htm)
This is likely the best 1k(ish) stone available. It's a must have as far as I'm concerned.

Hey Dave, not to distract from the original topic, but what do you use for wide double bevel sharpening?

As for this core set, I got mine over a year ago and still swear by them. In fact I'm quite tempted to get another set to keep at home!
