Hey guys, I've got a very special knife coming up that's been a little over 2 years in the making and I'm now re-thinking the wood for its handle.
I have 2 pieces coming from Mike at Artisanal, and I'm looking for more options. It appears our 2 other vendors are about tapped out so I figured I'd hit the community streets here.

What I'm looking for is something on the lighter side, nothing too dark. No bog oak please, not koa. I love me some koa, but just not feeling it here.

I'd really love something close to this:

But I'm open to options. If you have a couple pieces laying around that you'd like to pass along, please, by all means either post a pic here or shoot me a pm.

Happy Holidays!

The first one you posted really looks nice. I would just add that if you want, whatever wood you choose, it to keep its tone and contrast, than use stabilised wood. Ll the rest will darken over time and in general loose contrast. I just though I would mention this since you are apparently having some pretty special knife made :)

Maybe you want some buckeye burl?

I was leaning towards buckeye as I love that stuff, but I already have one wearing this. And the gentleman making the knife kind of persuaded me to go with something else becaus he already does a lot of work with that same burl and we're looking for something a little more special

Stabilized Redwood. It's got some seriously wicked 3D, different from every angle action going on.

Mark - are you looking for blanks for a western or Wa handle? (eg/ block for hidden tang, regardless of handle shape...or scales?)

Think I may have some highly figured cherry burl (not yet stabilized but should be), pale moon ebony, curly beeswing eucalyptus, mallee burl, maple burl, ....maybe a few others.
Haven't made any handles in a while... I'm glad to look through tomorrow morning and let you know if anything I have extra of meets your size/type needs.

Cedar is beautiful, but might be PITA to finish. Few examples from JNS

Karelian birch would be another nice option for something that's not too dark.
Of course, lots of other good options presented above.
I love that flamed maple on the JNS magnetic strips, but haven't seen it anywhere else (at least not anything that looks like the pics above).
