View Full Version : What's the deal with extra-thick Hiromoto AS?

Hey guys - maybe I've been living under a rock, but what's the deal with the 240mm Hiromoto AS that has an extra-thick spine on JCK? Is it a run that just happened to be clad extra thick? Or were these always around? If so, have people liked them? Like, do people wield them like old-school Wusthoff tanks - or are they still thinner than the average German?

Never even heard of it. Been a while since I looked at Hiro's on JCK. I'll have to mosey over there and see.

They were introduced this past year sometime. They're supposedly just a beefier version of the standard gyuto. Why? I have no clue.

I haven't seen them so I can't say. All I got for my questions was "knife is thicker"

Shouldn't they just call it a yo deba? What else would it be good for?

It's only 28g heavier than the regular knife at 258g. Most 240mm yo deba are around the 350g mark.
