Bolsters or no bolsters?

Assuming that a durable handle scale material like Micarta, G-10 or stabilized wood is used and the handle is shaped well, do you guys have a problem with traditional western style knives that don't have the typical Franco-German metal bolsters?

While maybe not necessary, I prefer the appearance of bolsters.
