I am loading new stuff in the store and got bored so I thought how about a contest.
The prize is the block in the photo and free shipping worldwide. Winner will be announced on Sunday 2/19.
The block is stabilized and the colors occurred naturally.

Here is how the contest works.

Guess what kind of wood this is and post your answer here.
Only one guess per forum member.
Your post number is your entry.
On Sunday I will use the random number generator to see who wins.
Even if you guess wrong you could still win.

:crossfingers: umm no idea so I will go with something off the wall, how about fossilized redwood. Maybe you don't have to stabilize it.

he said the color is natural.
Missed that. Dang! Thanks Eamon, in that case I know its not possible but I am changing to birch grown in Southern Utah so it absorbed all the iron from the sand and made it red. :scratchhead:

I'm going with Willow wood. Random but possible.

I am guessing Willow.

bcrano, I know you hope it's willow and Mark saves a piece for you! It was my initial thought as well. But maybe because I have it on the brain as my newest knife is sporting a diamond willow handle.

My best guess would be redwood burl. That stuff seems to be able to take on any colour and structure.

I got the block this morning. It's a very nice piece of maple and on one side it has a contrast between what you would think of as normal maple color and the type of stuff Mark is selling as 'dark maple.'

Thanks for this great piece of wood, Mark!

You must post pics of what you use it on.
