Many of us owe a debt to this company since they pioneered the way, bringing in high quality Japanese knives, sharpening stones (etc) to the USA. For many of us Korin was the first introduction to these great products and it can not be understated what this company has done for this community. I myself respect and admire their approach and am very happy to be announcing them as an offical vendor here at KKF.

Mari Sugai (AKA Korin_Mari (http://www.kitchenknifeforums.com/member.php/1530-Korin_Mari)) will be the official contact for us and she is very eager to get started sharing here.

Please join me in welcoming them aboard. :)

A visit is worth it; did it once and have bought 1,000 knives from Korin, really, no exaggeration. Does Mari know that free saya pins have to be provided to everyone on this thread? Did anyone mention this?

Thats great! Do you drop the store? :)

LOLOL You know, I don't know if I can provide saya pins, but I would love to gather a few of you for a private knife sharpening demonstration with Mr. Sugai.

Great! Mr. Sugai will be leaving for Japan tomorrow, but once he comes back I will open a thread for Korin visit with a private knife sharpening demo with Mr. Sugai. Does this sound okay?

Unfortunately, Jackie no longer works with Korin anymore, because she moved to China. I never had the pleasure of meeting her, but I heard she was in charge of Knife Forum. I will let her know via email though that there are people on this forum who still remember her. I'm sure she'd be really happy. :)

ROFL Yea... this tends to happen a lot, people come in to just look and they walk out with something. Which of course is great, but honestly I just hope you had a good time and someone took care of you well. :)

Korin broke me into Japanese knives too with a Tojiro DP gyuto (Shuns don't count). Things haven't been the same since.

Just wanted to add my two cents and belatedly say "welcome." Thanks for your response to my post about unexpected surprises out of the box and the occasional problem with Nenox's shrinking scales. As a fellow New Yorker, I've been to the store many times and only wish I'd discovered it sooner. The staff has always been gracious--and were always especially nice to my dachshund, who accompanied me more loyally than my wife! You may remember her (the dog, that is).

Korin_Mari

Are you asking if Globals count as Japanese knives? I'm going to assume you are... but no Globals aren't Japanese knives. They are really light though. Personally, the handles are a little too flat. :)

Speaking of brain fart. I have no idea were I was going with that. I know Globals are a Japanese company, they were my "gateway" knives. Maybe... uch... who knows.
