Ed, This is a ONE off pattern. and will make either a few small paring knifes, neck knives. or folders with matching bolsters. :) This one has a few different materials, including nickle and should Blue up really well. :) I plan to do some testing to see what I can make it look like by heat bluing, chemical bluing etc.

OK. Im gona try something new. I spend WAY to much time posting these for sale threads, what this does is increase the price on the stuff I sell. So heres the deal. Ill load some images of some of the stuff I have listed on FaceBook. with a link to a F/S thread.

Same rules apply. Post here what number you want. S150 etc. and I will shoot you a message with total and payment details. Like normal. :) The only difference is I dont have to re type all the specs and measurements etc.

This thread is a FS thread. with the last 2 scale sets I posted here, as well as a NEW bunch. of the most insane crackle ever! as seen in the example images.

Here is a link that should take you to the album. click the pictures on the R side and it will scroll to a second image of the same set. showing side details. and ends. All pictures have price.

Delivery will be approx. 6.00 for USA orders and 24 for International. Dont hate me for the price guys. Its the USPS who sets them.

What a great day. the mail lady wasnt thinking so as she had to deliver quite a few large packages today. I received some mammoth tooth in the mail. As well as the rest of the supplies needed to complete the first batch of new MTF Custom Folders! Also about 65 lbs of mammoth ivory to play with!! :) Was a good mail day. Ohh. I almost forgot. We also received a delivery of 170lbs of AEB-L Its gona be a fun year.

Im working on a 240mm custom damascus project thats gona be EPIC! As I was grinding this blade, I had a surprise visit to the shop from a Norton abrasives sales rep. :) Seems he has some new abrasives and I may be just the guy to test them out. That and if all goes well I may become a distributer of Norton abrasives and stones. etc. Time will tell. Pictures of the 240 and possibly the new mammoth tooth and ivory to follow shortly.

So, Im planing on doing a few short runs of AEB-L knives. from paring knives to the new "MIDWAY" gyuto's as well as 240's and 300mm gyutos and suji's Its gona be awesome! Stay tuned for more info on the MTF and the short runs of AEB-L cutters!!! Anyone with suggestions for new knives or anyone wanting to get a custom made. Please do contact me.

Thanks guys for your continued support and encouragement.
God Bless YA
Randy

HHH Knives

MTF custom folders?

The MTN is the second of three knives in the Montana Travler knives I designed and starting on last year. The first was the MTN This folder will be a work horse of a knife, But in HHH form. expect some BLING!

Ill give you guys a brief rundown on the MTF. They will be approx 4.5" closed and 8+" open. The frames are titanium. The blades and bolsters as well as the back spacers will be HHH damascus. 2 damascus patterns to choose from, Tsunami and Reverb.
All of them will be dressed out with full filework, and fancy handle materials. Mammoth tooth and ivory, musk ox horn, Mother of pearl, preban elephant ivory, to name a few. The thumb studs are gona be very cool on these. There going to be machined to accept a inset stone or piece of matching handle material. so if the handle is mammoth tooth. the thumb stud will also have mammoth tooth set into them.

These will be built to the hilt and the design is if anything. OVERBUILT! A true work horse!! Yet the look will be classy and sexy!

As of now I plan to do a very limited number of them. 12 to 14 total. If there is more interest in them here. I will share the original draft of the folder and can take pre orders on them.

July will be Folder month here at HHH Knives. I will be dedicating the month to making these knives. As well as a few other custom folders which clients have been patiently waiting for. (you know who you are. thanks) So anyone ordering these should receive them end of July or beginning August.

Blessings

I can email if you prefer... Just let me know....

For my B Day this year I was blessed to be gifted a Craig Barr Damascus tomahawk head. It arrived in the mail this morning and Hunter and I wasted no time on getting started.

First we selected a board of feather pattern wood from the shop. Which was destine to be firewood. But I saved it and its been sitting on the shelf for a few years waiting for THIS project. After cutting it to rough size. We started shaping.

As I was doing the final sanding on the handle, Hunter worked Sanding the head back to bare metal . and we etched it until it had a great look.

I applied a few coats of linseed oil finish to the wood. and managed to snap a few pictures of our progress.

It was a great gift. Im talking about the time spent with Hunter as much as I am the damascus tomahawk head. This one will get a few more coats of finish B4 I attach the head to the handle.

Ill post up a few more images when its completed.

As always, comments and or critiques welcomed.

You use a lot of mammoth parts. How easy is it to get this stuff and how much of a supply is there? Aside from the mammoth recently dethawed I'm sure there isn't a vast amount of this stuff around.

HHH Knives
07-25-2013, 03:06 PM
You are right. the supply is VERY limited. and although I have been blessed to work with alot of this awesome material. I am not sure what the world supply of it would be. I can only guess there is alot of tusks in private collections. and a bunch in storage in warehouses somewhere in China. I do know they find more every year as things thaw. and or mining is done. and what not.

So in a word. Its a rare material that is only going to become more rare as time goes by and the limited supply is used. And eventually they will have found the majority of the tusks and the supply will run out.

It wasn't very long ago that I was not able to offer Feather Gyuto's. Because Randy Jr is very fussy about how the feather pattern looks.. (Just ask Son.) At that time, he did not like the flow of the pattern when made 2+ inches wide. But he has refined the way he makes this pattern and it allows for the pattern to remain crisp and have the "look" he is happy with. :) And in my opinion. his feather is just getting better and better.
Im really proud of my boy and that he wont settle. Its gota be "right" and to a high standard or he wont make it, or if he does. He wont let me use it! lol There have been a few billets that I would of been happy to use. and he just wont hear of it!

Thanks Von B. Ill give Jr a Ata'boy..

Freaking HOT Randy. Your work is just so creative.

I wonder if someday you'll offer a production mid-tech in decent mono-steel/HT/Grind, w/ modest HHH handle, so that more of us mortals would be able to add one of yours to our rack? 210 would be a very popular size or home cooks like me. Just a thought.

Either way, thanks for all the knifee-goodness you bring to our Forum!

Rosewood comes in burls?:dazed: Mind....Blown.
How much does a chunk like that cost? It's like making a handle out of unicorn horn.
Also, as a curious wood geek, what kind of rosewood?

I had a request for a CAMP chef knife. So after working through some options and details about expectations for the knife. The HHH Camp Chef idea was born. After many months of waiting to get started. I selected a piece of birds eye damascus for the blade. Then chose a awesome piece of stag that was shaped right for this knife style. Its going to be a hidden tang with copper and stag.. And it will be sheathed in a cross draw leather belt sheath, tooled and carved.

The profile is one I have never made. having a clip point. Its sorta like a GIANT Bowie except with functionality as a chefs knife! I made sure no matter what the blade shape turned out to be that the grinds and cutting edge profile would be functional as a chef knife.

I can only imagine where this knife will go. what it will cut and or who will use it over the next 20+ years. But I know its gona be a awesome addition to any camping trip where they plan to do some serious cookin! ;)

Ill list the specs and pictures when its completed. Heres a sneak peak.

Its currently a double bevel and doesnt have very much taper in the blade. SO Im gona head out to the shop and do what I call a design modification. Breezyjr... I am in the same boat... the more I use Randy's work... the more I fall in love. I even told him I thought about just setting up a direct deposit into his account the way I am going . The 240 production gyuto is what I find myself going to a LOT. So much that I ordered something else from him... and while that project is still in the works... I picked up the Nakiri.... holy goodness. I am probably so far from doing this thing justice in terms of skill... but it is by far the best knife I own by a long shot!

Not only F&F being pretty much perfect, the handle is nothing short of a masterpiece! The blade... I was dicing up 2 peppers this morning for an omlette, and I barely had to touch them before the blade dropped straight through (I think I need to work on the claw a bit more or a nasty pic may be soon approaching)

At some point I am going to have to get on his list for a 240 if not a 270ish gyuto.

Randy... sounds like there is some love out here for a pairing group buy... just saying :)

He's also a heck of a nice guy. Lucky enough to live about 1.5 hrs away.

Couldn't imagine a more skilled, nicer knife maker out there!!!

Thanks for the update on the Nakiri. I knew when I was done with that one. It was gona be a awesome cutter! Just something about the knife. Hard to put my finger on what. I think its a combination of things that just worked right and the stars aligned. I dont know.

Blessings
Randy

So... back to the Kiritsuke.. After lots of grinding and working on this blade.

I gota go back to the grinder and do a redesign! Knife making can be a cruel mistress sometimes! I was so happy with the first redesign and grinds.
What a BUZZ KILL! lol

Rock on.

Well this one is at about 250mm and is about 33 tall. The tip is a little higher then original profile.

And its CRAZY sharp. I totally understand why one would make a grind like this. but "making" a grind like this is trickier then one might think.

Keep your fingers crossed. Im at exact same point where I was yesterday B4 things went south on me. So Im not gona say its gone end up as a knife YET. But I am sorta glad that I had the chance to refine and re refine this . I learned alot.

Question for you single bevel guys and sharpening gurus. I realize there is at least one or two holes in my stone lineup. The one I am most in need of is a course stone to removing steel. Like re facing a single bevel or thinning a old knife. What would you recommend? A DMT or stones and what ones?

OK so here she is.. After a few redesigns and learning a few things about this style knife. I have finally got a functional blade that is UBER sharp. possibly the sharpest edge I have ever made.

Specs are listed above in one of my resent posts

Thanks much. This one was a interesting challenge and I learned alot..

The spine thickness on the blade is 3mm at the heel tapering to 1mm where the K tip starts. about 1" behind the tip. Ground single bevel R hand.

Hahaha! I knew it wouldn't last long. Can't wait to see it with a handle. Question though, so you ended up not doing a gradual secondary bevel it seems? Am I looking at it correctly? It's kind of a Z-shaped bevel? Was that for performance?

Im not 100% sure about what your asking. I can try and explain the grinds on this one.

The blade has a nice taper. from around 3mm down to about 1 mm where the tip starts to drop. On the R hand side there is a flat grind. like a chisel grind. after this was as flat as I could make it on the stones. I then worked the edge area more. so about 1/3 of the bevel closest to the edge has a very slight steeper angle then the primary grinds. On the Left side. there is a concave or hollow grind. that is the full height of the blade from the spine to the edge. this is only seen on the heel shot down near the edge. Because of the tang. You can see where this grind starts on the photo of the left side. Combined. these grinds make the edge angles amazingly steep. . I then sharpened the blade further with a very slight micro bevel at the edge to aid a little is the edge stability. . and de bured by laying the knife flat on a 8K stone. I dont know the technical term or Japanese term for this type of edge. Or is there even is one. sry., What I do know is the edge is just stupid sharp! and the knife is going to cut well ad will be amazing for some cutting tasks and not as good or not able to be used at all for others. :)

Sry to get all long winded. If I KNEW all the proper terms I could of just answered Yes or No. lol Such is life. Im learning new suff and having a BLAST. and to me thats what its all about!

The knife will be going to a friend and member here and I am sure he will be giving us a update once he has it and has had a chance both to use and sharpen it.

OK so as long as I am typing. I am gona tell ya about the handle on this one. Because it worthy!! We selected some super figured Musk Ox horn for the main part of the handle and went with a Malachite Ferrule. And I will decide on the spacers when making the knife. Its a VERY unique combination of materials that I have not seen it on any other knife EVER! Yet I can already tell ya. Its gona be HOT!

They are Sooo much better in person! The liners are titanium and fully file worked 360* around and the thumb studs are inlayed with the wood used for the handles. Snake wood and Birch.

Both are available. Message me or email for pricing or info.

Thanks and God Bless!
