View Full Version : Not a knife, but a tool

Pardon the cell phone pic, but this is a broach that I finally got around to making for handle work-
It would appear that I can not remove the accidental picture in the post. If it continues to show up, it is a knife in progress!

That's going to be one wild looking knife that you are working on.
A little bit of bleach and you might be able to get rid of those black spots.

Spalted Holly! The bleach didn't work, I'll try white paint next!

It's gonna look cool.
Can't wait to see this one finished.

Why the sudden taper on the broach? Does that help with something?
Good job on it though, it looks like you spent a goodly amount of time on it.

It actually went quite quickly, I was doing a HT on a couple of blades so I just ran it through with them. The taper is so that I can shape the inside of the hole for the knife's tang without the shaft of the tool getting in the way. I drill a couple of 1/4 inch holes side by side into the body of the handle and then go in with the broach to shape the space for the tang. It is way faster than using a file to tune the hole.

o.k., so how much for the broach? :)

Right, but I mean, why isn't it just thin and straight? Why does it get wide?
