These are the first true was handles I have made. and I wonder why I waited so long! :D

If I may ask. I have a couple questions in regard to wa handle size and shape. So any advise or basic guidelines I need to know about would be great..

How much taper do you like on a wa handle?
How long is a standard size for a 240 blade?
Would you expect the handle on a 270 to be longer, larger etc then that of a 240 gyuto?

Is all this more personal preference? Or are there some rough guidelines as to handle sizes for different blade styles? :scratchhead:

Thanks in advance for your time and answers.
Randy

Those look like the kind of handles Ferrari would make if they ever get into making knives.

18mm x 22mm at the front and 22mm x 26mm at the back would be a medium(normal) size Wa.

It looks like carbon fibre used in high-end bicycles etc.

I like this a whole lot.

Looks great. The material is a good idea too, should hold up to the moisture and humidity well

LOVE the simplicity and touch of red.

Are those "waves" due to the material or camera?

The waves are the material. Its layers and as I shape the handle you can see the different layers. Its very cool. Not a camera trick. Thanks.

Very cool! Wa handle dimensions are a lot like knife profiles. There are norms, but no standards--it's all preference.

These blades were sent to me ground and heat treated. I made and fitted the handles to them. The are a VG10 with damascus cladding. Seem like well round blade to me. The single bevels knives are stupid sharp as you would expect from this style grind.

I hve a couple single bevel knives coming soon that are full customs. :) Stay tuned for more info and pictures!
