In this time of giving (and wanting), I thought I would post a few knives from other people's collections that I covet. A couple of Raders and DTs, a Bill Burke, and a lineup of Hattori KDs. Jon Broida had a couple too, but his old posts no longer have photos in them.

All of those are ridiculous though.

I don't keep up with the custom market because I can't afford them. Someone please give me some details on the knife second from the bottom, just below the KDs.

It is a Michael Rader for sure - not sure whose it is though.

Oh I don't know that scimitar gives it a run for its money. Although I do love that Radar too, looks powerful and elegant. Mr. Dinky you have great taste I want all of them.

I have a Burke coming in February i'm excited about, but I do drool over Raders. I have for years now.

One was in this post (http://www.kitchenknifeforums.com/showthread.php/3266-Something-special) I think. I'd have to do some investigating to find the other one as I can't remember the details off hand, only that I really wanted to buy it and someone else got it.

Justin0505 owns it. It is a beautiful knife and the integral bolster on it is probably the best I have ever seen. It's a big one though -- skull splitting murder weapon large. Chuckles recently got to see it up close too.

it was a 300mm Tsukasa Hinoura Yanagiba... a local chef picked it up a little while back. Thankfully, he's close by so i can go see it if i feel withdrawals setting in ;)

There are some more pictures of that last blade in this thread (http://www.kitchenknifeforums.com/showthread.php/2032-Gesshin-Ino-La-Pièce-de-Résistance?p=29799&viewfull=1#post29799).

Justin's Rader is something else. I could see Bilbo and Frodo fighting over it before along walk.
Bolster is amazing and it has a no joke end cap to match.

NO ChoP!

LOL. Funny you should mention his knives... when I read the title of this thread I though it should have been: "Thou Salt(y) Not Covet..."

My heart says YES! My brain (and wallet) says don't even think about it. There are definitely some awesomely beautiful knives out there. Luckily for me I am a simple guy and not tempted by Damascus...yet :)

There are so many amazing knives out there and it seems like the bar is just constantly being raised. I'm fortunate to have that Rader gyuto; it was the realization of the thoughts and day-dreams of many years. I actually just got an email from him about the next project: it's gonna be cool (but then again, "uncool" really isn't in his options list).

There are a few knives in particular that always come to mind when coveting is mentioned.
I really like the set that Hoss did for Dillard; they're so over-the-top bling, but somehow they don't look at all gaudy or over-done. In fact, I find them elegant and breath-takingly beautiful:

http://www.irculture.com/pics/DTknives/suji_style3_small.jpg
http://www.kitchenknifeforums.com/showthread.php/1467-Knife-Porn

But, if we really want to talk bling and mind-blowing skill, I don't know if it can get anymore knutzo than the DT Gishiki Bocho. The way that the composite pieces meet perfectly right at the shinogi line makes my jaw drop. IIRC the pattern on the back was different too. I couldn't find more/better pictures and I think that the mystery owner should send it to me so that I can take some more...

In a completely other direction, but no less awesome or unique is the tamahagane knife that Sara's parents gave Jon. Sadly, I couldn't find the original post and I don't remember there ever being that many pictures in the first place. What's with people with rare, one-of-a-kind awesome blades not posting more pictures?!?! Again, I think that Jon should probably just send it to me so that I can help him out... or, at the very least post the link to the original thread here.

Another is Cdawg's (did he maybe lose his mind and sell it?) 8sun Unground Miroshi that shows the hand-forging bad-assery that Carter is capable of when hes not flying around in helicopters. The pictures don't show it, but the Urasuki is FORGED, not ground and damn-near perfect. Also, to add to the ultra-rare, there-will-never-be-another-ness of the knife, Fish did the wa-conversion and handle.

I've used that Carter Miroshi and just about died when it went up for sale. I could never afford such a knife but it has become the standard to what I want in a miroshi... Such a sweet knife :)

I came close to buying it from him and talked to him a few times, but budget for baby took priority.

Judd's 220ish mm DT SWR suji. When I borrowed it I seriously considered faking a theft or post office mishap and just reimbursing him for the blade.

Probably a little different to all the other knives in this one, but a fellow forum member lent me their A-Type a while ago and it was awesome. Pretty much a pro's dream. Weighty with great edge retention and can take a beating, I loved using it in work

Here's a picture of the rehandle. I can honestly say that it is more amazing now. The picture doesn't do it justice.

I just had a similar experience with Ben's Kato. Such an awesome knife. I had a really hard time sending it on it's way. Definitely gonna pick one up this spring.
