I have used the liquid on other things, and it isn't nearly as strong as the powder. My advice would be use the powder.

I use the lower model of that controller (the red one) with my craftsman buffer. It works pretty well.

Just wondering what method you guys use to remove the lacquer? Would a wire buffer wheel work?

Yes, I think this is more what I had in mind, actually. I have a pretty decent idea, in my mind, of what needs to happen, except for maybe some of the details about installing the new handle.
