My girlfriend spent a few weekends trying to perfect these last year and in the end they were very good. It seemed that you can under mix as well as over mix though as the macronage needs to be loose enough to form a smooth shape. If it's too stiff and under beaten the you'll get a peak from...
It could also be worth looking for an old scuba tank as they cut them in half when they fail a pressure test. They're either made of steel or Aluminium and would be about the right size.
I recently bought the 165mm deba that 330 mate sells. For the price I was really impressed, nice finish and the grind on the back seems good. Definately worth the money.
The crazy quilt Damascus sounds like it could be very cool :)
Do you think it would be possible to forge together multiple layers of damascus (similar to cladding a core) so that the grind exposes different layers of Damascus as through the height of the blade. Might be interesting?
Hi Del,
You may have already done it and I've missed it but I'd like to see your Damascus used as cladding over a carbon core. Maybe using stainless Damascus with a nice etch to colour the core?
