Paring knife tales and the humble opinel.

Carbon Opinels are one of my favourite pocket knives.

    The future of knife cases?

Looks like the zipper would be rubbing against the bottom blade faces.

    Hamons

    They are pretty.

    Bowie vs. Chef

Maybe you could stick it in a bandsaw and cut right down the spine. You'd end up with two nice thin knives. :)

    Tip Work

Personally, I've never understood the fascination with tips on large knives. If I want to do something with the tip of the knife, it's because I want control. And controlling the tip of a 90 mm paring knife is significantly easier than controlling the tip of a 240+mm behemoth - plus it is...

    Heavy Patina

"Heavy Patina." "Small nicks and other battle damage visible near tip." "In good condition for its age." "Two-tone handle, very collectable!" "Still razor sharp!" "My uncle bob brought this back from germany when he killed 87 Nazis and three U-boats with it! If you don't buy this knife...

    Mamma mia!

I've heard of (and seen) the opposite happen - the initial edge is soft and rolly, but after a few sharpenings it's fine. This is generally due to overzealous use of power buffers causing the outer "shell" of steel to temper. I was going to say that I don't see how you could end up with a...

    Starter Anvil

Discount cast iron anvil will probably be lumpy too, so you would need something big enough to flatten it first. After that you'd need a bucket of one of those "cold" case-hardening products. And it still wouldn't be a very good anvil.

    Great Deals on Honing Sprays

Got tired of trying to find a spray bottle so I just dribbled it onto the leather and spread the puddle around with my fingers. Seems to be working pretty nicely for me, although I've still got lots of practicing to do. Went from 330 -> 1k -> 4k -> 3u -> 1u. The 3 micron gives me a...

    WIP vintage knives

As I said, a regular propane blowtorch (even the $5 variety) will do the trick. Then again, I also said it probably wasn't worth the effort.

    Can Someoen Identify This Knife?

I think it translates as "SURGICAL STAINLESS". Sometimes also known as "Mystery Metal(tm)". :P

The Price of Certain Makers Knives

Armouring (specifically medieval/renaissance/etc. armouring) is a field very similar to knife making... Many of the people who (successfully) do it for a living have said that this "batch method" is the only way to do it. Making one item at a time is much more fulfilling, but it is a really...

    WIP vintage knives

Good to know, but I still think "it's glowing red even in daylight" is easier to measure for a cottage armourer like myself. :P

WTB: Straight or DE razor from someone on this forum...

I left my extra DEs back in Ottawa, but there are always plenty of them up for sale on the BST forum at BadgerandBlade.com. I think you will find they are a pretty good community. (Disclaimer: I'm not related or affiliated, but I do post in their forums and I've enjoyed a few purchases there...
