    Stop permasoaking without stones cracking

Thanks for the replies, guys. They are resinous, I believe - JNS synthetics. If I decide to risk it, I’ll go the damp towel route.

    Stop permasoaking without stones cracking

Hey all. I have three JNS synthetics which have been permasoaked for a few years. Is there a safe way to remove and dry them out for splash and go so they won't crack/fall apart. I ask as I once bought permasoaked stones, left them out of water and they fell apart on me.

WTB (Melbourne, Australia) A low grit (320, 400) stone.

Hey all. Looking for a low grit stone to replace my (I think) Beston, which is now a bit skinny, uneven and I've kinda always hated the way it feels. Obviously, I'm in Australia. Cheers

    Splash and go finishing stone

Hey Jaknil - I've sent you a PM. Can I ask what you mean by "it is a bit muddy"? I'm coming from the perspective of someone who doesn't know a lot about stones.

    Splash and go finishing stone

That's OK. I haven't been remiss in buying a rather lovely Kurosaki 240 gyuto from James. :) I guess I'm more inclined to the slightly less mainstream stones - the JNS etc. My interest has been severely piqued by the Gesshin Synthetic Natural, at the moment. Anyone wanna sell one to me?

    Splash and go finishing stone

Hey, thanks for the vendor suggestions, guys. I'm actually hoping that some kind forum member with an over abundance of stones will have something to sell to me, by way buying second hand to offset the shipping costs. Looks like the ages shins might be a good option, too

    Splash and go finishing stone

Sorry, should have mentioned budget. Hoping to keep it around $120US, but open to suggestions for a great stone.

    Splash and go finishing stone

Hey all. I'm after a splash and go finishing stone. Well obviously. Open to suggestions - ideally something like a JNS red synthetic aoto. I'm not interested in Shaptons, but most everything else is up for consideration. I essentially only have gyutos, so I'm assuming something in the 3-6k...

    Stone advice from down under

Ok, so I've got a Beston 500, and JNS1000 and 6000 on the way. Already have an Atoma 140, so I should be set. I've got an old set of Globals that now live in the drawer, so they'll be my first victims. Obviously, I've watched a bunch of videos etc, but if anyone has any hands on advice for a...

    Fujiwara #1 Shirogami Gyuto - 210mm

I have the ebony handle on my 210 gyuto, which gives it literally perfect balance - as in, the balance point is right on the heel of the knife. Makes it feel crazy nimble for a blade that is much thicker on the spine and heavier than my Konosukes.

    Fujiwara #1 Shirogami Gyuto - 210mm

My first good knife was a Konosuke 240. The first knife I really fell for was a Teruyasu Fujiwara 210 gyuto - same as the one you've linked to, except with an ebony wa handle. It's awesome. Screaming mad sharp, and easy to sharpen. Perfectly balanced - heavier than the Kono, but feels just as...

    Stone advice from down under

Thanks, ynot. Seems to be a bit of live for the JNSs. Is fininishing on a 6k alright for my Konosukes? They are the HHs.

Thanks Lars and OneS. I feel like the path forward is becoming clearer and yet more complicated at the same time!:)

    Stone advice from down under

Sure. And free shipping makes a big difference to me. But I actually have no idea what stones you're talking about, sorry.
