Somewhere, I just can't recall exactly where, there is a write up or two. I'll poke around and see if I can find them.
Here's a few that I found...
This was only the 3rd knife I made (please don't judge me on this one alone LOL - hopefully I'm better now)
Nakiri...mini review(kind of)...
I'm finally working on Martell knives again. When I say to you folks that I seriously underestimated the amount of work I had in the shop I mean SERIOUSLY underestimated. It was the perfect storm that began last summer with a hospital stay (recovery) and then Hiromoto handle sale, Martell knife sales, rehandle coupons, tons of Stefan handles, KKF operations, and my everyday sharpening repair work all coming in at once. I can't blame this situation on all that though, that was just part of it, the rest was my fault completely as I was accepting all the work that was coming my way and it's come at a rate I never could have imagined.
The last few months I've been making lists for work but not accepting anything new. That's allowed me to work through what's been stacking up in the shop.
There have been a few points in the last few months where I've wanted to jump on Martell knives and knock a few out but I stopped myself from heading down the path of quickie work. I don't like the idea of being pressured when making a knife, I like to do each knife in it's own time and pay attention to details and get it right. So I've pushed Martell knife making off until now for this reason.
I want to take this opportunity to thank each one of you who have been waiting VERY patiently all of this time for your Martell knife. I am beyond words thankful to have your faith in me and promise that the end of your wait is coming near.
Currently I'm working on...
Jim (O1 - 300mm wa suji & 180mm wa nakiri)
Emanuel (O1 - 240mm wa gyuto & 300mm yo suji)
*Plus E's waiting on a rehandle that I'm doing at the same time
So no BS here folks, unless my shop falls down I'm back in knifemaking mode again for the foreseeable future and look forward to reducing the list substantially.
Again, thanks for your patience and understanding!
Thats Awesome Dave, Thanks.
I love and respect your level of communication! Always keeping your customer's in the loop will always be in your favor, nice work!
That's great news! Not just for us but I'm sure this has weighed heavily on you and it's got to feel pretty good to get things moving again.
Just curious, being the perfectionist that you are with crafting your own blades, about how many man hours can you put into each one?
I just remembered something as well about my knife, PM incoming.
