Whats cooking? **** Making something fine and fancy?** Just plain good? Show us!

There will be more such chances to acquire my cutlery... I have only officially put down my wishes for who the dog and M1 Garand should go to, so take your best shot.

Whats cooking? **** Making something fine and fancy?** Just plain good? Show us!

Reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated... I'm fine and the false morels around here are quite tasty!

Whats cooking? **** Making something fine and fancy?** Just plain good? Show us!

Because I found a great deal of conflicting information and spent a good bit of time asking questions, including those with university degrees in biology and some who have eaten these species regularly for many years. Finally, I got up the courage. I will admit to writing down my desires for the...

Whats cooking? **** Making something fine and fancy?** Just plain good? Show us!

About half an hour ago. Only problem so far, I want more. To clarify: There are several sub species of Gyrometra. They look somewhat alike, but have differences in their biochemistry... But even the most toxic varietals are eaten regularly in some cultures (suomi!) when properly prepared...

Whats cooking? **** Making something fine and fancy?** Just plain good? Show us!

I couldn't find any morels the last couple of days, but there WERE some nifty looking FALSE morels. Been told they're dangerous by old guys. On line, alternately listed as "poisonous" or "edible & choice??? *** is that about. Are these REALLY going to poison me with monomethyl hydrazine (which...

Other Polish style cured and smoked pork loin

I trimmed just about a kg from the 3 roasts, put it in same curing mix less the juniper & allspice but with thyme & garlic for salt pork too. Made salt pork with dry salt/spices recently, was good but WAY too salty, had to extend dish until salt was right (was a batch of hoppin' John, black eyed...

Other Polish style cured and smoked pork loin

Michi, anything worth doing is worth OVER doing, right?! Cleaning out the deep freeze and somehow I had five half pork tenderloins in there, ***? WELL, I know how to handle the oversupply... So, a bit over 15 lb. before trimming is going to become polish cured... And I have a new, never used...

FaceBook put this Kickstarter in front of me this morning- From past experience, my first thought on virtually ANYTHING promoted on FakeBawk is "scam". Curious about this idea regardless. Anyone know of this? Thoughts???

Things that show up in my "in box"?

My first thought, God, that's ugly. Second thought: Looks uncomfortable and heavy? Then, I saw it was offered at the bargain price of only USA $1,950.00. After that, I laughed so hard my dog became quite concerned. Then, I realized that at least this dude IS making knives, what have I done...

    "Made in Japan", steak knives...

Thanks for the information! Apparently Napoleon Dynamite has read the maker's book & posted a glowing review on Amazon... (Edit) BLOODY HELL. You have sent me down another rabbit hole... https://studyingjapaneseswords.com/tag/o-suriage/

    "Made in Japan", steak knives...

I'm looking at the Gerber "Pixie" field knife and the "Miming" steak knife in comparison. Not as close as I initially was thinking, these look more ergonomic/hand filling. Wonder what the steel is? From several eBay advertisements, whoever made these sold them under various trade or distributor...

    Thanks for everything-

Yes, the freezer is filled to capacity... And I need to make more of the "top shelf" spice mix! My sister has now started making preserved lemons and I've seen her post images of her own batches of tangia on social media, this stuff is catching. Thanks again-

    "Made in Japan", steak knives...

Looks like someone in Japan was riffing off of the early Gerber knives? Marked with western script, anyone know who the maker was?

    Emulating Binchotan Charcoal- Black Locust?

Re: Shimizu, charcoal for fast powder, hemp & etc.? Corn cobs. Same idea as hemp stalks but no potential for arguments with federal AHJs about unlicensed handling parts of a "drug plant".
