I love the takamura 180 and have it in both r2 and vg10. Actually prefer the vg10 version - cuts the same, easy to sharpen, no chippiness. MAC HB-70 is a great option for something cheaper and tougher.

180mm stainless for quick tasks, 250mm+ carbon for serious chopping.

It would be very difficult to find a better knife for $250.

Just want to say I love reading this passaround and seeing the design iterations, hopefully more people in the community learn about how great this line is.

I've had the 250mm version since April, and it's probably my favorite knife; and that's not even taking into account the confusingly low price.
