I keep getting phone calls, emails and PMs asking for African Blackwood.
So I ordered some more. A box arrived today with 5 dozen mill run pieces.
These are pieces that did not meet the grade for clarinets. They want jet black and no visible grain patterns.
So I get these at a fraction of the price.

Now I need to go through these, trim and clean them up and see what I have.
You never know what you will find in these batches. In the past there have been some figured and some with green or purple flash.
Just don't know until it gets cleaned up. Some of the plain chunks will be available as ferrule material.

I have a couple knives with this wood as ferrules. Holds up great. I used pieces that were more brown than black on my knives.
At 1st glance they look black but when the light hits a bit of figure and colored flash show up.

It gets darker when sanded and it goes with almost everything.

It does go with everything. I needs some too

wow a mix of bog oak, this, and some ebony would be kinda cool.

Mark, I love the African Blackwood that you sent me for ferrules, it does indeed go with everything. :)

You want it darker, hit it with some boiled linseed oil after you finish sand it and wait a couple of days.
