I thought I would post some random photos from here.
As the days go by I will take some photos that may or may not be interesting.

This is Larry cutting slabs from a big Tan Oak bunion. Tan Oak is not really an Oak but a member of the Beech family.

Here is one of the slabs. Hard to tell from the photo but when dry and sanded there will be very flashy figure kind of like wrinkled velvet.

I love it when you show pics of your work place Mark. I have got to get out to the left coast and do a tour from south to north, stopping at KKF oases along the way.
How's Kirby doin' ???

Is it the pic or the house in the background really has got weird roofs?

Looks like it would be a fun place to hang and enjoy some of the local mushroom varietals.

I pulled some of the Cascara out of the drying room this weekend and messed around with it a bit.
The more and more I look at this wood, the more I like it.
This photo shows a snack tray I made for my wife to use at the computer. The bigger piece I will use to make a sign for a coming Knife Show.

Nope.
This is the first time I have come across Tan Oak pin burl.
Usually it just forms bunion type burls.
Looks like this will have spaghetti grain and red eyes. That is if I can dry it successfully.

I want some spaghetti grain and red eyes! That grain looks crazy!

Love this thread Mark, keep 'em coming!
Can I come and be an unpaid intern?

Here are a couple pieces of Redwood that a guy brought in for me this afternoon.

The guitar guys will probably think it is wrong,
but.....I bought some good flamed / spalted maple guitar billets and have been cutting them up for handle material.

More wood came back from getting stabilized at K&G.
Some of this will go into the web store. Some will get set aside for the Knife Show I am going to in a couple weeks.

A friend that I have known through the internet for a few years has been stashing good Koa over the years.
A while back he sent an email and offered to share some of his stash.
The 1st three packages showed up today.
It is hard to tell from these photos but most of this is 5A (the really good stuff) figured Koa.
Hasn't been sanded yet so a lot of glare hiding what is there.

I got some of this Koa back from getting stabilized.
I was starting to take Koa for granted until this showed up.
