    Hello

    Hello,
I thought I knew how to shapen a knife using oil stones. (was I ever wrong). Yesterday I was given a mini lesson using wet stones.
What I though was a sharp knife was a dull knife compaired to a sharp japaneze knife. I need to learn more and was told this is
    a good place to start.

there is nothing wrong with oilstones. Like anything once you learn all the nuances of a thing you can master it. With that said, water stones are pretty badass too. I can get my knives just as sharp with natural oilstones as I can with natural water stones but, it's a different kinda sharp. A different feel.

Welcome! I have never used an oil stone, I'm curious how that works. Do you just slap some oil on it and go to town? Do you have to soak it in oil, like water for some waterstones?
