I'm not a stone nut like most of you guys. I've been using a 1K King stone forever. After my wife knocked the stone off the table and broke into several pieces, I was in a market for a new medium grit stone. Since I'm the world's laziest sharpener, my main requirement was that it had to be fast. After talking with Jon a couple times, I decided on the the Gesshin 2K stone. I don't normally plug stones, but I have to say this stone is amazing. Its almost as fast as my Beston 500 and it puts a 2k finish on the edge. This stone would be perfect for a one stone setup. Fast enough to put a new edge on a blade and fine enough to easily push cut paper.

Now that sounds like a stone that this stone minimalist would like to use!
How soft and muddy is it compared to the king 1k (the only stone I use, not including wet/dry paper)?

A lot less muddy than the King. Its not quite as soft but it isn't hard either. It provides excellent feedback.
