Looking for some info on ceramic (honing/sharpening) rods to be used to maintain a bread knife. What are top of the line rods out there? I guess, rods in 1-3K range would be of interest.

Thanks,

M

I would think the Spyderco triangle would work well for getting into serrations. I believe they have rods that cover the full grit range.

Ben Dale offers 2 1200 grit ceramic hones, the same grit as the Idahone. Large hone looks like 1/2 inch diameter, travel hone is shorter and maybe 5/16 diameter. I may have a spare if you want to test one.

Mac is 16mm, and just for kicks the HA glass rod is 13mm.

Black Mac is the safe bet. My tojiro bread responds best to the DMT fine rod....its diamond, though.

Diamond rod would be fine, but preferably in 1/2 diameter. I looked up DMT rods, they are a bit smaller.

DMT also makes a ceramic rod. .5 inch x 12". It's rated at 2200 mesh/ 7 micron. Pretty close to Shapton's 2000.
