i bought a Mizuyama 5000 at the beginning of the month. it's a really nice stone, in fact i prefer it to my Rika, except that my semi-stainless Heijis, which are my most used knives, don't work well with it, and my Shapton glass stone 4k (which the Heijis love) is good enough that i'm not finding myself using this stone on my carbon knives. the stone has been used about a dozen times, and hasn't had much taken off. $50 shipped, CONUS? very good feel with this stone, and while not a hard stone, it isn't so soft as to be a pain. basically splash and go, though a 5 minute soak seems to bring out the best.
