Well folks here is a day that I thought would never come. I am offering for sale the famous Fish handled Sugimoto with the green and ironwood burl handle. I have probably received in excess of 50 offers to purchase this knife over the past 7 or 8 years (in retrospect I should have kept a list haha ) Hopefully some of you will come out of the woodwork now. I have just too many knives as you know I've been paring down the collection and selling knives I never thought I'd sell. Unfortunately I need the money so this knife will have to go. It really breaks my heart as it is probably the coolest knife I've ever seen in my life and I love basically everything about it. The cleaver is a Sugimoto #6, these are carbon steel and never highly polished and come fairly rough from the factory. The spine and choil have been rounded and the face of the blade has the standard scuffs from years of patina, cleaning and sharpening. Aside from the standard blade cosmetics it is in overall excellent condition. The handle is in excellent condition, the original finish Fish put on is still going strong and the woods have moved very little. (If you are the type of person that pulls out the micrometer and runs your fingernail over everything you'd notice it, but otherwise it really is very close to where it was brand new from Fish. The woods are green dyed box elder, which frankly is the nicest dye I've ever come across. I've spent the last 7 years trying to find something comparable but never have. The other half is a truly gorgeous ironwood burl. The boster and pommel are brass and are stippled (I think that's the word) to give it a really cool texture and nice look. The handle overally really speaks for itself and steals the show here. And yes, it is as comfortable as it looks if not more so. See the pictures and let me know if you have any questions. I would like to get $600 for the knife, with $20 shipping. I will take care of the paypal fees. Considering the quality of the woods, the workmanship, and the added bolster and pommel, I feel this is a fair price. As I said I have received many offers for this knife in the past, many in excess of this price. I really hope that this knife can go to a good home where it will be cherished as I have cherished it and remember our dear friend Fish every time that it is used. Thanks for looking.
