    Anyone care to guess...

... what should soon be added to my knife board?

Actually, it has been a while since I last posted, and in the meantime I have also received a great, very rustic, hand-forged Vietnamese-style cleaver from Vinh Lê Cao, the same knife-maker about whom I posted before.

He starts with something like this:

    Then hammers it into this:

And eventually ends up with this, after a good selective temper:

Mine is the second from the right - I thought that 1.1kg was enough! The farthest one on the right weighs almost 2.5kg!!

The two farthest on the right in the picture above being tested:

Trust me, they will cleave right through rocks...

Obviously, my new tool of choice for dealing with bones!

Good guess, but no. Though they may end up looking somewhat similar in some respects to some of his knives...

Yup! No credit to me for the photos, though - they come from his blog.

That was my 2nd guess... not many other guys regularly forging integral bolsters. If it's not Rader then who does that leave? Burke?

Well spotted, guys! It is indeed a set of matched Raders. More to come about those.

As to the cleavers, Vinh does take custom orders, and has very reasonable delays and prices. His contact information is on his blog. I believe he speaks English, but let me know if anything gets lost in translation, and I will try to help as I can...
