I know we have a few members here from Wisconsin. Any recommendations on places to eat in Madison. I'll be there early this coming week for a short visit.

Eshua here on KKF - works at Sushi Muramoto - I have not been there yet, but plan on it one of my next trips.
German Fare just up the street the Essen Hous is one of my wife and I's favorite spots on Badger Football game days
If you are on the west side Nastrono's is pretty darn good rustic Italian
If you want a steak - my personal favorite is Smoky's and get the hash browns (crusty outside creamy middle, just fantastic)
Burger - I would go Nitty Gritty - not the best but they are reliably good.
I have been wanting to check out The Old Fashioned for a while. It's supposed to be pretty good.
If you are in for a little road trip out of town jump over to New Glarus for a brewery tour and most of the restaurants in town are pretty good and reasonable.

when i go to Madison (which is about once a year, as a major tech supplier for my department has a yearly conference there), i pretty much just hole up at the Old Fashioned for the whole trip.

I think Magnus might still be around. Contact Heath Besch he used to work in all the high end places in town

If you are in a group you could go to Prime Quarter and grill your own steak. It's a lot of fun with a group. For me, my must hit stop is Zorbas.

GO BADGERS!

Not sure why I said Zorbas. I always ate at Parthenon's!!! My mind is going at too early an age.

Thanks for the quick input everyone. I take off for LaCrosse in about two hours, but won't hit Madison until Sunday. I've always heard Madison has good food, and the wife and I are on a early scout-out to see if this would ever be a place we'd want to relocate to.

It was probably 20 years ago but I can vividly remember taking a date to Smokeys and being utterly embarrased at the end of our meal to learn that they were cash only, of which I didn't have.

Salty and Sweede were right to point out nostrano and letoile.

http://www.harvest-restaurant.com/menu.php Is run by one of our old managers, always had a good relationship with this place.

http://www.43north.biz/ is another one of ours.

http://undergroundfoodcollective.org/forequarter Fore 1/4 is a group of a dozen guys making sausage and other cured meats who opened this place after they burned down the first one. Afordable, local, good, but so small and hip I waited an hour for a table on a Tuesday night.

http://www.nattspil.com/ For late night bar food. It's a service industry place with delicious dumplings and wood fired pizza if your out late.

PM me if you want to come by for sushi or just stop in for a shochu kettle after service at our new bar --- shameless pics inc.

Good to know. I haven't carried cash on my person for over three years now. I gave up paper money a while back.

I ate at The Old Fashioned today and it was very good. Started off with the WI cheese plate with wurst plate too. Both were extremely good. Also had a steak that was perfectly prepared.

Btw, never go there around 5-5:30 on Sunday. It is FULL of kids. Granted, I added a couple of my own munchkins to the mess, but it was insane.
