In my opinion safety shaving is dead simple and cheap. My most expensive razor was a whopping 8 bucks on ebay, cheapest 3 dollars at an antique store. I buy ten blades for $1.82 at walmart. I don't ever remember cutting myself either. I cannot imaging paying the prices for the current razor heads for the mach 3 or whatever. They get all clogged up with all the strips, blades and wire guards, you get a better shave with a safety in my opinion.
That being said, straight shaving is a whole other ball of wax and takes some time and practice to get all aspects required, such as shaving, lathering, stropping, honing and restoring old beat up razors but it is enjoyable.
I forgot to clarify, the razor on page one needed to be sent out for honing, this razor did not need any outside help to shave well.
