This is some old stock figured Claro Walnut that used to belong to a gunsmith who used it for high end gun stocks.
I have cut these into book matched sets that are large enough to make a saya/scabbard for most kitchen knives. Some knife makers might use one of these to make matching scales for knife handles or for display box tops.
There may be a couple fine hairline checks at the edge of some pieces so you will want to position your pattern so they will be trimmed away when you shape your project. I left these sets large instead of trimming away the small flaws at the edges. This is natural wood, it has not been chemically stabilized.

This is one of the sets I liked.
