I am in the process of refinishing one of the dining room's floor. Low and behold it appears to be made from several kinds of wood.
Can anyone help me identify them?

I'd say mostly pine and maple with maybe some ash thrown in. Mark's the expert here.

Doesn't appear to be pine. To light to be maple. I would say either hickory or pecan due to the coloring. The photo isn't enough to make a good guess. Needs to be closer to the floor.

I am leaning towards David's guess but would need to see close up photos.
Often times hardwood flooring will look like different woods but is usually all one type wood.
The different colors and grain patterns are usually just variations from different logs or portions of the log.
Example some heartwood, some sapwood (different colors).
Some cut flat, some rift, some quarter sawn (different grain patterns).

Salty how old is that floor? I wonder if that's hemlock.

Dave
