no idea, but i really like the thumb screw! definitely makes the scissors easy to adjust, as they are ground down with sharpening!
 
They are many many years old and have been used in a professional salon. Lucy is heartbroken she cannot find a replacement for them.

You can only sharpen them so many times before they become less effective.

Oh. I was curious because I went through the same thing myself not long ago with a different brand of Japanese hair shear. I found out that 'less effective' in the case of these shears usually means that someone who is not familiar with sharpening Japanese shears has sharpened them as we would normally sharpen shears here in NA (that is assuming these are Japanese. I don't really know the brand). Glad you got it figured out.
