Takeda does make one heck of a nikiri but I really love what I see from SY. I'm sure the yuke is a really solid knife. Good luck with that!!

The cheapest way to get into a Shige is with a nakiri....

I have been thinking about selling my shig. Let me know if interested. It's an amazing knife.

I think a Nakiri is a fun knife for a home user to slay vegs with. A Carter is my favorite to date. This week I'm playing with a Gesshin Uraku from Crothcript's passaround and liking it. Good f/f, good balance, skd stainless, great price. Could do a lot worse.

The photos of that Sakai Yusuke Ginsan nakiri appear to show a pretty thick blade. It just might be the way the pictures are turning up.

You can't go wrong with either the Kono HD or the Takeda. I've used both. But I don't recommend the ebony handle on a Kono because it adds a good one and a half to two ounces to the overall weight.
