    Great looking handles.
Good, tight joints and excellent finish.

Nothing wrong with amboyna. I love it.

Do all of the handles you make taper towards the ferrule?

You might call this last set my final development set. I tweaked the dimensions again and switched to a Tung oil finish (I had been using teak oil, but it doesnít work well with multiple coats).

Stabilized spalted mango w/dyed black ash ferrules and caps, and bakelite spacers.

Red mallee (filled the cracks with turquoise powder) w/dyed black ash spaced and ironwood ferrule.

Stabilized koa with spalted mango ferrule and bakelite spacers.

Amboyna w/pollyanna and amboyna w/ironwood (you didn't think we were going to get through a set without some amboyna, did you?).

That's it for now. I should be finishing up a new set in the next couple of days. Thanks for looking, and please feel free to respond with any suggestions , critiques, or smart-assed comments you feel are called for.

    Be well,

Pretty much, yeah. I taper the squared up blank from back to front (about 3mm for a large gyuto handle) before doing the side bevels, then I taper in the ferrule from the front spacer after doing the side bevels. The amount of taper on the ferrule varies depending on the type of knife I have in mind when I make it. If it's for a gyuto it's going to have a pretty strong taper, if it's for a suji it'll have much less. I'm finishing up a couple of suji handles in the next couple of days, you'll be able to see the difference when I post them.
