Thread: Honu Mana Wa Handles gallery

Thank you erikz, one of the reasons I hand sand my handles is that it gives them a softer look with no sharp corners.

The word I was looking for in my previous post is that they look organic. Almost as if the wood is still alive and breathing.
    Thanks again for sharing!

    Brown and Red Mallee

This is a large gyuto handle in brown mallee burl with red mallee ferrule and end cap, with red bakelite spacers. In addition to my usual taper on the sides of the ferrule, I also did a small taper on the top and bottom (ala fish). The Honu inlay and crack filler is purple sugilite.

    Height:
    @ end cap- 27.5mm
    @ front spacer- 26.5mm
    @ front of ferrule- 23.5mm

    Width:
    @ end cap- 25mm
    @ front spacer- 22.5mm
    @ front of ferrule- 19mm

    Length- 143mm

Maple burl with Pollyanna (wild almond)

Large handle in stabilized maple burl with pollyanna (wild almond) ferrule and end cap and white marbled bakelite spacers. Honu inlay is crushed pearl. This handle is a little more conventional in that it lacks my usual secondary taper on the ferrule.

    Height: 26.5mm/24.5mm
    Width: 24.5mm/21mm
    Length: 143mm

That maple burl is outstanding, and the pollyanna is not to shabby either. I like the taper on the mallee, just a hair more and that is what I am looking for.
