Hi, Im thinking about getting into the world of sushi and sashimi making and was wondering if this would be a good knife to get.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000WQ00GQ/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

Its the #1 seller on amazon and has a some decent reviews and its really cheap.

What can I expect out of this knife and how does it compare to a $100+ Yanagiba?

Do not read the high amazon ratings, read the 1 & 2 star. If you look at the pictures the collar is cheap plastic. The backside has no hollow grind(Urasuki) it is flat. The steel is marginal. Here they sell these at the drugstore with the kitchen stuff.

It is bottom of the line sashimi knife sorry with some things you have to pay for some quality.

Welcome to KKF!

The knife you linked to isn't even worth the price that is asked.

It cannot in any way be compared to a $100+ yanagiba.

If you cannot afford a $100+ knife, or just don't want to spend the money, get the Kai Wasabi yanagiba. It's not great, it's not even good, but it's passable.

A much better knife can be had for $100 plus shipping from MetalMaster:

And I recommend that you get a 270mm, not a 210.

1. Amazon has tons of fake reviews. Basically people pay companies to have the hods of fake reviewers to review the products. Note, this not only affecting amazon.
I do the same as keithsaltydog mentioned, only focus on 3 and lower star ratings/reviews.
2. The money would be better spent by giving it to the charity.

If I put an edge on a butter knife it could cut sashimi equally dont waste your time dude.
