I have 2 lectures to give in September, actually the same lecture at 2 events.
It is on the secret process of making gold and silver mokume gane.
I wanted to make a cool piece to show off, as an example of the work that can be done.
In discussions with a friend I came up with the idea to do copper and silver as practice pieces to build confidence.
This is similar to what I have in mind out of brass and copper by artist Peter Bond

I made a sample billet myself out of some stock I had on hand and came up with these.

I received my material for the main billet today Over 5 ounces of silver and a bit more of copper.

These are the plates I use to hold and compress the billet while it is cooking.

After cleaning each piece and stacking them together they go into the plates.

The plates get bolted together and put into the oven to cook for 12 hours.
They are cooking now.

More as progress is made.
Thanks,

Beautiful bowl, dig the pattern type thing it has going on.

That is so cool. I've always wanted to see how this stuff was made

Smart to practice on copper and silver. Looking forward to seeing the final billets and results with gold.
