I have a hanging strop that I received from my grandfather and would like to use it to hone my knives. Do you guys recommend using it hanging from an eye hook on the wall or laying flat on a block of some sort?
 
you shouldn't use a hanging strop ...kitchen knives are not razors my friend....far from it.....you need a solid surface to strop on.....ryan
