Masamoto KS on Rakuten

Anyone purchased on Rakuten? One of the sellers has the Masamoto KS 240 gyuto (KS3124) for . . . drumroll . . . $240 USD.

Masamoto KS - Just a project knife nowadays?

My bad for not searching the forum first. Seems like this deal can be pretty hit or miss.

i purchased a KS from rakuten a few months back, from the store Yamawaka.
It cost under $200 shipped and i was able to ask for a blonde ferrule.
The knife came quickly and was decent enough i suppose.
I did this for two reasons
1. I wanted to see one in person
2. I wanted to sell it on eBay and make a few bucks
I don't sell anything on BST here for profit (quite the contrary) so i put it up on eBay and ended up making about $80. easy.
To be honest, I was totally unimpressed with the knife.
It was just ok (but no, I didn't actually ever use it).
It just seemed kind of adequate in every regard.
I was kind of shocked people used to pay near $400 for these knives but maybe this one was a second who knows.
In any event, I remain unimpressed with Masamoto for double bevels.

Liked the knife. The only thing is that it is not taking any patina. I guess it may have some kind of film protection? On the back of the blade there is the letter S, i presume it stands for shirogami, but if anyone knows better, let me know.

The Masamoto Swedish stainless (aeb-l) gyuto has the "S" stamped on the back, the shirogami does not, iirc. Would certainly explain why you are getting no patina. :biggrin:

Marcelo, you purchased a Swed Stainless KS for only $199? Thats quite a bargain!

I thought so too! It was advertised as white steel though. I'm happy with it nonetheless. But my favorite is still that Takeda gyuto 270mm. I love that knife.
