I have been using loaded balsa wood with 1 micron diamond for stropping but I scored some wonderful thin very hard felt strips for free from my local felt manufacturer, so am thinking of switching...

My question is, stropping on loaded felt would seem to ensure a "micro concave" edge, to coin a term,. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Does it make the edge stronger for example, if so I am switching!

TIA

I think it would actually be "micro convex", but either way...rock hard felt is really solid stuff, and a few years back in the search for rock hard felt I came across a number of options listed as rock hard, and none of them were close to what Dave offers in his stropping arsenal. You could round over teh edge when stropping IF you were applying pressure as you stropped...so don't so that

clearly, you are an edge freak like me..we should meet..

me, less kitchen knives..more hunting knives. haha..
