My brother is getting married and I'm flying out from Chicago.

No promises in this part of the country but you should be safe from rain in Sept. "Normally" it starts about mid-Oct.

What are you looking for in Seattle? Shops, restaurants, local sights etc.?

Pike Place Market is always at the top of any list of places I tell people to go in Seattle.
 
Do you have kids? I always like Gas Works park and kite flying there. Awesome steady wind, great views. Ballard Locks are cool. As far as beaches check out Shoreline beach. Not many people and good sand, reasonable tide pools.

Things I did not care for was Experiance Music Project and the cost of going to the top of the Space Needle.
 
Restaurants mostly but things to do would be nice.

There are a few really good Dim Sum places, butt my fav isn't there any more. King Barbecue on King Street is great for Chinese BBQ takeout.
