Hey all,
We made a knife for fun that doesn't have a designated home yet and might be something you all would like.
Specs:
Tip to heel: 252mm
Depth at heel- 35mm
weight: 165g
Balance: 5mm in front of BB stamp
HRC: 64
Grind- R-hand asymmetric two-stage
Handle: Octagonal Wa with blackwood and burnt American Chestnut. This chestnut came out of a barn beam in WV built in the mid-late 1700's. Note that this species is now essentially extinct in tree form due to a fungal disease that wiped them out in the 1930's. The blackwood is sourced from a clarinet factory in France in the 1970's.
Steel: Cruforge V
Notes on the steel: There seems to be some misinformation out there about this steel, not sure why. Most interesting to me is that it has very fine grain and is very tough, but more importantly it has excellent wear resistance for a carbon steel. Vanadium is a relatively light element (MUCH lighter than tungsten for instance) and 0.75% is a LOT of it. In terms of carbide volume it is has quite a bit more than Aogami Blue #1, but should be more stable and tougher due to the much smaller and slightly harder carbides. We get a little more performance out of it with a cryogenic quench. Needless to say this is a workhorse steel with good wear resistance, but also incredible keeness. It's a little more time consuming to sharpen than 52100, but not bad in my opinion.
$600 with CONUS shipping. Happy to ship abroad if buyer pays shipping.
Let me know if you're interested.
Best,
~Luke
