The bladesmith is Owen Bush.... anyone used his knives?

Steven

Wow, what a beautiful film. Almost a meditation on the art.

Bill

No coolant on the grinders, blade produced steam when he dipped it into the water :scared4:.

Ha ha, everyone here is an expert eh:rofl2:

Just kidding, but it would be an understatement to say Owen knows his steel and metallurgy.

Owen and a few other loons showed me the ways when I first started getting into making knives for which I'm eternally grateful.
Mr Bush is a notable and very experienced BladeSmith, Well known for his amazing Pattern welded Swords, he makes incredible Axes, some properly huge, very little grinding he loves to forge and forge weld big with big lumps of damascus when ever there is enough 15n20 to fuel his steel habit!!

He has become a dab hand in making his own steel, Tatara method, using kent ore where possible. His smelts have become very very consistent these days. I will use some of his steel for a kitchen knife when I get the chance.

His Functional pieces like Kitchen Knives, pocket knives and more practical axes are utilitarian rustic charm, thats how he likes to work in this way for functional pieces and it works for him.
He uses his knives, he likes to cook, he cooks BIG! bit like he forges, but then I've only experienced his cooking style at forge ins with many hungry dirty faces!

He really goes to town on fit and finish on some of his traditional swords, Multibar pattern welded composites and carved handles, the works.
He Collaborates with many other notable makers especially with historic work and has a pretty extensive School at his amazing forge in Kent, highly recommend anyone interested to take a class with him. I attend his Forge in ,every few years and will be doing some sort of demo at the next one.......Have to think of what to do!!!

He's done quite a bit of TV stuff now. The big Lurvie :)

Here is his website anyway ;)
