Why hasn't this happened yet? I see so many threads asking for stone advice and It's much more simple than the knife questionnaire. I see it as something like this below. Feel free to add any relevant questions and maybe we can make it a sticky once complete.

LOCATION
What country are you in?

STONE TYPE
What type of stone are you interested in:
Synthetic or Natural?

Splash and go or soaker?

What grit range are you looking for?

What stone are you replacing if any?

What stones do you currently use in your lineup?

What is your absolute maximum budget for your stone?

STONE USE
Do you primarily intend to use this knife at home or a professional environment?

What type of knives will you be sharpening? (Traditional Japanese: yanagi, usuba, deba or Western style gyuto, petty etc)

What type of steel will you be sharpening?

STONE MAINTENANCE
Do you use or have a flattening plate (Yes or no.)

If not, are you interested in learning how to flatten your stone? (Yes or no.)

SPECIAL REQUESTS/COMMENTS

What stone(s) are you replacing if any and why?

Might be informative to know why someone wants to replace a stone!

I think the type of edge could be left for special comments, not sure everyone has the same expectations from those terms (same idea with laser/workhorse comparisons)

great idea. another question: any previous experience with water stones? beginner, novice, skilled?

Edited and fixed errors.

I think such a questionnaire could also directly link a video (or webpage) or two that explains some of the basic stuff about stones. New members may not necessarily be accustomed to detailed meaning what 'soaker' or 'splash-and-go' mean (including drying time - most do not think about that I would guess) or similar.

But yes - I fully support this idea.

bump for a sticky? this seems to be something that winds up being relevant a few times a week...
