What things do you like to make around the holidays? Any special treats, snacks, candy, or anything you give out or are famous for in the family? I made a pile of Amish style fry pies, smoked beef jerky, and smoked honey glazed almonds. Family and friends really enjoy them and have come to expect it around the holidays.

Good question, and your list of special treats sounds awesome!

We normally end up with a rib roast at some point over the holidays, hard to go wrong there. This year we're planning on doing sushi on the 24th, likely with some gravlox as a starter. NYE will be caviar, beef tartar and lots of champagne.

Otherwise it's nice to take advantage of the days off and cook a bit more time involved stuff over the next couple weeks. (this doesn't mean anything specific, just trying to say it's fun when you can take your time in the kitchen)

Usually a rib roast for x-mas. Wife wants to make gingerbread later this week, so I will pick up some foie gras for her to enjoy on the gingerbread. Also going to make Warren's chocolate bread this year; usually make a bacon-cheese bread recipe from Cooks Illustrated. Will probably make a batch of lime/ coconut sorbet as well.
