I know, I know, kukri is not a kitchen knife. But, perhaps, since it's a knife, somebody knows where to buy a good one? Something similar to the original design.

Are you looking for off the shelf or custom?

I know a sword-smith (in England) who makes nice Kukri.

Open to either or. I am just afraid that going custom might run over my budget very quickly.

P.S. I have no idea how much a good kukri cost.

Kukri House has always worked for me. I have several knives they have shipped straight from Nepal. I don't like Himalayan Imports for a number of reason including them not honoring their verbal guarantees.

I never had problems when dealing with them, but I have only ordered from them twice. Thanks for informing me about their problems. It has been awhile since I have done business with them and things might have changed for the worse.

Same site as I linked before, but a higher quality version of the British Gurkha

If comparing Himalayan Imports with the various Nepalese sellers, note that HI gives the total length of the kukri, while the Nepalese sellers usually state the blade length. So this kukri is, in total, the same length as the blade of the previously linked one.

The modern Nepalese ones tend to be significantly heavier than antiques of the same size. Some makers sell some light models. Tora Blades (in the UK) specialises in kukri of historically accurate weight.

You could buy antique if you want. Can be cheaper than new. Check Atlanta Cutlery's range of antiques: http://www.atlantacutlery.com/c-100-knives.aspx

Thanks all for weighting in, very helpful.
What would be the difference from $90 one to the $175? Better heat treat or just better F&F and attention to the detail?

In most cases it's a higher level of F&F. All the sites linked have authentic blades made in countries that utilize this type of blade.

After doing some reading I think I need something smaller and lighter then a standard issued one. The main purpose of the knife is outdoor, camping, bushwhacking.
I narrowed it down to 10-11'' inch blade.
Any opinions or perhaps experience with any of this three options:?

Service No 1.: http://www.thekhukurihouse.com/catalog/product.php?id=3935f65111
Gurkha Jungle: http://www.thekhukurihouse.com/catalog/product.php?id=323430fc2012

Either JUNGLE OR Gurkha Jungle for outdoor/camping. No need for a polished blade IMO (service no. 1). I personally prefer the Gurkha Jungle based on looks and slightly longer blade.
