Is there a preferred cutting board when using lasers?

Hey all,
Been curious about something- for the people who have laser-type knives or otherwise very thin behind the edge knife, have you found a certain type of wood that works best with the knife (less sticking into the board, forgiving on the edge)?
I'm having 1-2 of my knives sticking into the board perhaps a little more frequently than is good, particularly when trying to go through hard, dense foods. I'm sure at this point at least part of this is a technique issue and being better in touch with the knife profile. But otherwise - cutting board is a cherry end grain wood, which to my understanding runs on the softer end of board-suitable woods. Would this problem be slightly mitigated with a harder wood like walnut? Or is this train of thought totally off course?

Thanks in advance
