Pleased to meet you, my name is Ben, and I am a novice in the knife business hoping to learn more on the forums and improve my knife knowledge. I come from the North of England (Gateshead) but I am making a life for myself in Canada (Salt spring Island BC) where I am apprenticing, and at present I am in Japan visiting my girlfriend's family, and knifemakers!

I look forward to talking to many of you in the forums!

Hello Ben and welcome. There is really no better way to learn about Japanese kitchen knives then visiting some knifemakers directly in Japan - in particular if you speak Japanese :)

Have fun around here - this is one of the nicer forums out there - lot's of really nice folks here.

What it is that you are apprenticing in?

I am apprenticing as a knifesmith, I have made some of my own knives, and want to specialise someday in kitchen knives. I know they have some strict rules about knifemakers on here, but I am not really in the business, and I am certainly not trying to sell anything, I am just here because it seems like the best environment to learn the most detailed sharpening and thinning procedures.

I hope that's OK.

Nice to meet you both by the way!

Cool, I wish you good luck with learning knife smithing.

Do not worry - the admins around here would drop you a message should you get out of bounds. Once you get as far as selling your own blades you may upgrade your membership, so there is no issue. Do not hesitate to share some of the knives you are working on the the "Shop Talk" subforum.

Nice to meet you too :)

You're gonna love it here man. Enjoy Japan and we frikken love photos and posts, don't be shy.
