Hi

When you buy from any of the Japanese makers direct do you normally have to pay import duties, if so what percentage

Thanks

Alan

UK, for goods of value exceeding 18GBP (which I reckon covers most knives discussed here)

VAT - 20%
Customs duty - 8.5% iirc
Some couriers will charge a holding fee, typically around 10 GBP (flat rate)

If you're from the UK you will pay import duty and all that from most vendors. If you order from JCK though you'll only pay $7 postage and no other fees. I've ordered a couple of things from the States and other Japanese vendors and chances are you'll have to pay about 30 quid duty and fees and all that on a 200-ish dollar knife

Sorry. my bad

Although im British i actually live in Chicago

Koki always seems to know what amount to put on the customs decalaration to make it beneficial to the buyer.

Not for the US, although you're supposed to pay state sales tax.

Stu.

(Who won't falsify a legal document for any reason, but I'll bend the rules as far as I legally can...)
